Fire sprinkler foremen are responsible for the flawless installation of fire alarm and sprinkler systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. They manage specific installation projects assigned to them by the fire sprinkler manager. They also supervise installation fitters, apprentices and assistants working at the site. The foreman must inspect work being done from start to finish to produce a quality job.
Foreman Skills and Abilities
Licensing requirements vary by employer, but all fire sprinkler foremen have valid driver’s licenses. Foremen are responsible for completing assigned projects in a timely manner and without going over budget. They’re self-motivated, ambitious, interactive, communicative, detail-oriented and organized. While they’re able to work on projects independently, they also inspire others and promote teamwork. Foremen understand fire protection installation requirements, architectural drawings and blueprints. They’re physically able to frequently climb ladders and safely operate high lift equipment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Fire sprinkler foremen use project drawings to accurately and entirely interpret installation requirement details. They delegate appropriate tasks to fitters, mechanics and assistants as needed to fulfill project completion deadlines, meet scheduling requirements and exceed the goals established by the fire sprinkler manager. Foremen are in charge of updating daily installation progress notes on job contract drawings. If a change to the order is necessary, they bring it to the attention of the fire sprinkler manager.
