Duties and responsibilities of a Housing Officer

Housing Officers supervise the day-to-day maintenance and management of rented properties that belong to local authorities or housing associations. In this role you’ll be in direct contact with people on a daily basis helping them to resolve any housing problems they may have.

As people will be coming to you with problems that could have a serious impact on their lives, this job is all about being sympathetic to their situation, while also offering key advice that will help them find a solution to their housing issue.

You’ll also keep up to date and accurate records on all the cases you deal with. You’ll have to undertake research and compile statistics, present your findings in meetings and get to grips with the latest government legislation.

As you’ll need to visit your tenants, you won’t be based solely in an office, and you’ll be interacting with people for most of your working day.
